Network Technician

Position Description

The Network Technician assists in the maintenance, design, and expansion of the company IP, MPLS, metro fiber and wireless network. Responsibilities include provisioning and troubleshooting customer data circuits, performing fiber and wireless surveys and providing technical customer service and support. The Network Technician must comply with established policies, procedures and overall Company Core Values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy new customer Internet and transport circuits
  • Perform customer fiber and wireless surveys
  • Respond to customer service requests via email, phone calls and through a ticketing system
  • Provide general technical support of all SupraNet services
  • Participate in and contribute to after-hours scheduled maintenance and outage tasks, as needed
  • Participate in a rotation of on-call after hours support
  • Have knowledge of and actively adhere to the Company’s Security and Acceptable Use, Records Management and Retention and Disaster Recovery Plan

Education and Experience Requirements

  • 2+ years IT support experience, preferably in a NOC/ticketing environment
  • 2+ years network installation, maintenance and troubleshooting experience with wired and wireless solutions
  • 2+ years networking experience with Cisco and Juniper routers and switches
  • 2+ years installation and troubleshooting of FreeBSD/Linux, Windows and virtualization platforms
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have superior organizational and documentation skills
  • Knowledge of 802.11 standards and frequencies
  • Knowledge of fiber optic and WDM technologies including provisioning, configuration and/or troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of standard protocols including TCP/IP, OSPF, RPVST, DNS, DHCP and SNMP
  • Programming exposure with Shell scripting, Python or Perl
  • Knowledge of security features such as access-lists, port-security and best practices

Bonus/Nice to Have Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of service provider wireless point-to-point and point-to-multipoint hardware
  • Knowledge of BGP
  • Splicing, OTDR, general optical troubleshooting experience
  • DDoS mitigation techniques
